This forest of stones fossilized 50 million years ago lies on the old road to Sofia.
On the old road to Sofia there is an amazing site: a forest of stones fossilized 50 million years ago, in the shape of mushrooms, menhirs or... phallus, with the most incongruous paces. Called "petrified forest" for their layout, these stone fossils, 5 to 10 m high and up to 2 m in diameter, are the result of an extremely rare geological phenomenon, whose origin is debated: either organic (algae and corals) or mineral. To be seen!

Le site se situe non loin de la ville de Varna (environ 10-15 km), pour y accéder il est indispensable d'y aller en voiture. Lorsqu'il y a qqn à l'accueil, on peut avoir une brochure, mais ce serait bien d'avoir des plaques ou des panneaux à proximité des pierres pour se repérer, connaître leur âge approximatif... Certaines pierres auraient des vertus (fertilité...), il serait intéressant de savoir d'où viennent ces croyances. Promenade agréable en tout cas.
