The remains of this 14th century castle, nestled on a rocky peak and overlooking the Váh, are really worth a visit. It was burned down in 1698 on the orders of Emperor Leopold I. On August 30, 1944, escaped French soldiers helped the Slovak national uprising by trying, from this castle, to block the advance of the Wehrmacht. Today, a famous war memorial honouring fallen French partisans has been built in front of the castle.
