Built in the 13thcentury to counter Tatar invasions, it served to protect the Rajčanka river valley until the end of the 17thcentury . Renovated during the 15thand 16th centuries, it was transformed by Italian artists to suit Renaissance tastes, without losing its defensive function. It was gradually abandoned in the 18thcentury , when it was used as a stone quarry by the inhabitants of neighboring villages.
