This natural park is rich in plant and animal species. The peak of Orizaba, the highest point of the country with its 5,636 meters, has for prehispanic name Ciltatépetl, which means "mountain of the star". It is in its crater that the god Quetzalcoatl immolated himself in order to free his soul in the form of the quetzal bird, transforming itself into a star flying towards the heavens. There are 4 access roads to reach the crater, as well as three refuges to accommodate climbers.
