GORNJAK MONASTERY
Go there and contact
In the gorges of the river Mlava, 18 km from Petrovac, this monastery is very beautiful, installed as it is, literally leaning against the cliff. It was founded by Prince Lazar and built between 1378 and 1381. It fell into oblivion under the Ottomans, after having had a certain importance. Rebuilt, then burned in 1788, its current appearance is the nineteenth century. Its frescoes, from 1847, are of great quality.
The Serbian poet and painter Đura Jakšić often visited the monastery. There he wrote The Journey to Gornjak and The Night in Gornjak.
