Founded in the 15th century, Grgeteg has been destroyed several times but retains that spirit of the monasteries of the region. It contains valuable icons by Uroš Prédić. Metropolitan Pavle Nenadovića is the originator of the current complex, started in 1750. Completed in 1763, it was then known as the most beautiful monastery in Fruška Gora. But in 1777, the imperial court in Vienna decided to transfer it to the Catholic community. It was finally returned "out of special mercy and for the consolation of the Serbian people".
