Lake Ludaš takes its name from the Hungarian word ludas, which means "goose". Since 1977, it has been included in the list of Ramsar sites for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. It was formed thousands of years ago by the force of the wind, which brought water into a depression on the spot, whose flow is stopped by dunes. It is about 4.5 km long and extends in a north-south direction. It is located on sandy ground between the Danube and the Tisza, on the edge of the plateau of the Bačka region.
