In memory of the battle that took place on June 15, 1389 of the Julian calendar, or June 28 of the Gregorian calendar, and the death of a large number of soldiers of the Serbian army and Prince Lazar, venerated since then as a holy martyr by the Serbian Orthodox Church, a ceremony is held every year in Gazimestan. On this occasion, the memorial displays an image of the holy Prince Lazar and the Serbian flag. This interesting and well-attended event attracts large numbers of Serbian-speaking pilgrims every year.
