Botanical garden with nearly 1,420 species of cactus from Africa, America and the entire archipelago

This garden is of interest to botany enthusiasts and everyone else, where you'll discover all the names of the cacti thanks to the labels placed in front of each plant. Its amphitheatrical structure of volcanic stone and its emblem, an oversized cactus, were designed by César Manrique. Nearly 1,420 species of cactus from Africa, America and the Canary archipelago are planted here, along with other species such as the prickly pear or tunera. In the past, fig harvesting was one of Lanzarote's most important activities, attracting cochineal beetles(Dactylopius coccus) whose carmine color, once dried, was used to dye fabrics. In the cactus garden, you can also see the old windmill used to crush corn to make flour and then gofio. There's also a restaurant with a lovely terrace overlooking the garden. And you can continue admiring it while sipping refreshments, as the restaurant offers a wide range of drinks, including delicious fresh fruit smoothies. Or sample some of the many homemade tapas or papas arrugadas with green and red sauce. And for those with a small appetite, ham croquettes, tortilla or fresh yellow melon. Last but not least, don't leave without visiting the little stone store, where you'll find everything you need to take home as a souvenir, including cactus seeds to plant at home.
