Rocky mass perfectly recognizable in clear weather from the island of La Palma, sacred mountain for the Guanches
This fortaleza, fortress, is a rocky massif, whose trapezoidal silhouette contrasts with the rounded shape of La Gomera. On a clear day, it is perfectly recognisable from the island of La Palma. Reaching 1,241 metres, this mountain, no doubt due to its unusual shape, was sacred to the Guanches. The ascent takes about 100 metres from the hamlet of Pavón, on the road to La Dama. From the top, the view extends to the south coast and the steep but terraced slopes of the Erque barranco. It takes about 20 minutes.
