AUXONNE VILLE IMPÉRIALE
Auxonne, labeled Imperial City, organizes a wide range of activities, events, demonstrations, exhibitions and conferences
Since 2022, Auxonne has had the Ville Impériale label, a sign that the First and Second Empire periods left their mark on the town. It was here that the young Bonaparte studied artillery before the outbreak of the French Revolution. A bronze statue of the future emperor, installed in the church square since 1857, is a fitting reminder of this episode. As an imperial town, Auxonne is now able to showcase its imperial history and heritage. In April 2023, the first Journées Napoléoniennes event was organized. It was a weekend during which the town came alive with a host of events, demonstrations, exhibitions and conferences. A journey back in time with re-enactments of Napoleonic battles and a bivouac of over 240 tents with enthusiasts in period costumes. This major event will be repeated every 4 years, so see you in spring 2027! In 2023, Auxonne was awarded the Destination Napoléon label, a European distinction for towns inspired by "the values of the Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment, the ideals of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity". In 2024, imperial tours are organized by the tourist office from 6pm to 8pm. Simon, a guide dressed as Napoleon, and Nathalie, a guide dressed as Sans-Gêne, will take you on a tour of the places in the town that were affected by the First Empire. Three dates to remember: Friday June 28, Friday July 26, Thursday August 15. Bookings at Auxonne Tourist Office.
