Visit of Auxonne, the only Burgundian witness of classical fortifications.
A former border town and military stronghold, Auxonne remains the only Burgundian example of classical fortifications. Although they were entirely redesigned in the 17th century according to Vauban's first system, they remain breathtakingly ingenious. One can admire two thirds of the bastions and curtains, and two monumental gates: the one called "de Comté", built in 1503 and the Royal Gate, built in 1677. In 2015, as well as the entire site, the fortifications and ramparts were renovated. New viewpoints are therefore accessible!
