EL JULÁN CULTURAL PARK AND INTERPRETATION CENTRE
Go there and contact
Interpretation center to learn more about the Bimbache aboriginal culture in El Julan.
The interpretation centre is an "open door to the prehistoric civilisation of El Hierro". If you wish to discover the aboriginal culture of the Bimbaches, this is the place to go. Inaugurated in 2009, an archaeological complex allows you to discover the traditions and vestiges of the aborigines. It is one of the largest sites in the Canary Islands. The Tagoror was a meeting place, while Los Letros and Los Numéros were places where you could learn writing and bimbaches numbers. Located at 800 m above sea level, you enjoy a view of the south of the island, a spectacular landscape between the barranco of Garañones and La Dehesa (southern tip).
The visit (on foot, 11 km round trip, 4 hrs). During the walk, the guide will show you the preserved remains of this civilization in the middle of nature, such as the remains of burial cellars, huts, numerous petroglyphs and the famous tagoror (place of ceremonies). To the right of this site, you will see a steep volcanic slope on which you will see bimbaches engravings. On the path leading to it, you can admire the concheros, an example of the staple food that these primitive men were supplied with. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water.
Two other visits planned: by car and mixed, 3 hrs. In the mixed circuit, plan 7 km of circuit on foot, the return trip being by car by the company managing the visits. The visit by car will follow the same route but will be shorter, about 3 hours.
