This information centre is at the beginning of what was the march from Selma to Montgomery, carried out by thousands of civil rights activists led by Martin Luther King in March 1965. Another identical centre, the Lowndes Interpretive Center, is 21 miles away, in the middle of the itinerary formed by the Selma-to-Montgomery National Historic Trail.
