RIVERSIDE HOTEL
A historic hotel in Clarksdale, opened in 1944, the Riverside hosted the blues singers and musicians in the city. The whole does not pay a mine, but the atmosphere is truly authentic. Time photos adorn some walls, and you can almost feel the ghosts of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters or Bessie Smith. One of the hotel's rooms was dedicated to the latter, who died here following an automobile accident in 1937, while the building still housed the G.T. Thomas African American Hospital. Held for many years by Frank "Rat" Ratcliff, a historical figure in the city, the establishment was recaptured in 2013 by his daughter Zelena.
