This wildlife sanctuary is one of the first areas of importance for bird conservation in Colombia (AICA). The reserve protects thorn forest, tropical dry forest and mountain forest, following interpretative trails in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, between 190 m and 1,680 m above sea level (Cerro de Los Besotes). There are 285 species of birds, 7 of which are endemic, and 44 species of mammals. To visit, contact Tomás Darío Gutiérrez, director of the Los Besotes Ecological Foundation.
