Atánquez is the gateway to one of the strongest indigenous cultures in the region, the Kankuamo. It is reached by collective cab from Valledupar (around $15,000). At an altitude of 1,700 meters, this resguardo indigena exudes spirituality and tranquility after having suffered for many years from the armed conflict. Atánquez is also the scene of one of the most representative cultural and folkloric celebrations of the region, those of Corpus Christi, which take place in June, to the rhythm of drums and maracas.
