LOS NIÑOS VALLENATOS DEL "TURCO" GIL
Los Niños Vallenatos is a group of musicians aged between 6 and 18 years
Los Niños Vallenatos (The Children of the Vallenato) is a group of musicians between the ages of 6 and 18. It was born from the initiative of master accordionist Andrés "Turco" Gil, a generous musician who decided to dedicate himself to teaching more than twenty years ago. Los Niños del Vallenato became famous in 1999 after their performance at the White House, in front of a Bill Clinton who was captivated by the classic La Gota Fria, and who became a fervent admirer of the Vallenato Children. The former president dedicated two pages of his book on people who change the world to the maestro and his "children. " How I wish that in every conflict zone there was a maestro like "Turco" Gil," he wrote. Originally from Guajira, this humanist teaches the accordion, the caja and the guacharaca to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, many of whom are orphans or displaced by violence. He offers them, with the learning of music, the opportunity of a brighter future and also a big family, the one of the vallenato. In recent years, young people from around the world have also come to study at this prestigious academy. The presentations - which include classics of the Caribbean repertoire such as La Cumbia Cienaguera, the most emblematic and universal song of Colombia - are characterized by a great harmonic, melodic and rhythmic quality, and always generate a lot of applause and emotions.
