VILLA MUSEO GIACOMO PUCCINI
The place where Giacomo Puccini lived with his wife and son Antonio, now a museum dedicated to the Italian composer
Now a museum dedicated to the Italian composer, this villa is where Giacomo Puccini resided with his wife Elvira and his only son Antonio from 1891, and where he rests, within the small chapel, surrounded by other family members, including his niece, his last descendant, who passed away in 2017. Puccini, in fact, fell in love with Torre del Lago and this peaceful house, overlooking Lake Massaciuccoli. It was here, in this place filled with memorabilia and personal objects, that Puccini, one of the most famous composers of the second half of the 19th century, composed many of his works, including Manon Lescaut (1893), La Bohème (1896), Tosca (1900) and Madame Butterfly (1904). That's it! Notice that the heroines of his lyrical works are almost always women, clinging to the love that slips away.
An interesting visit, because this museum makes Puccini more familiar and his work more accessible. We literally dive into the world of this illustrious opera composer, between objects of everyday life, portraits of the master, recognitions from around the world, paintings of his friends belonging to the artistic movement known as "Macchiaioli", and his room, almost intact ... We will end with a sentence of this great composer of genius: "When I write an opera, I seek above all to be sincere, to be true; and to give, with all my strength and by all means, the meaning of life."
