The trail starts on the eastern side of H -385, one mile north of the visitor's south access. The promenade follows the Wind Cave Canyon until the park closes. This is one of the best places to watch birds. Limestone cliffs offer good nesting areas for the cliff swallows and the great Duke of America. Dead tree trunks serve as a house in the red-throat and at the Lewis Pic.
