ELLSWORTH ROCK GARDENS
Garden with flower terraces and stone sculptures, designed by Jack Ellsworth with natural elements from Minnesota
In 1940, Jack Ellsworth, a carpenter originally from Chicago, decided to create a garden using natural elements from Minnesota on the shores of Lake Kabetogama. For 20 years, while spending summers in the park with his wife, this self-taught artist laid out flower terraces and built over 200 stone sculptures using only local elements. With their feet in the water and the forest as their backdrop, these colorful gardens blend perfectly into their natural setting and are well worth a short visit of an hour or more.
