The mountains witnessed the bloody conflicts between Mescalero Apaches and Buffalo Soldiers.
For more than 10,000 years, the Guadalupe Mountains have witnessed bloody conflicts between Mescalero Apaches and Buffalo Soldiers, the passage of the Butterfield Overland Mail, the arrival of ranchers and settlers, and finally, the creation of a national park itself, protecting its local flora and fauna. And as for culture, history is preserved at the Frijole Ranch Museum as well as at Williams Ranch, and in the ruins of Pinery Station.
