This splendid mountain ends in a vertical peak and could serve as a backdrop for a cowboy trotting off into the sunset. It rises above the Chihuahua desert, and is an attraction well worth visiting. Measuring over 300 metres in height, El Capitan comes a little out of nowhere, with its cliff-like profile visible for up to 200 km in the distance. Not only is the mountain magnificent from below, it's also spectacular from above, offering panoramic views of the range's western escarpment and Guadalupe Peak.
