This volcano was formed between 1060 and 1090 AD and its cone reaches 340 meters from the base. The site was designated a National Monument in 1930 by President Herbert Hoover to protect it from a Hollywood film shoot that planned to use explosives to recreate avalanche damage for a blockbuster movie.
