JOHN DAY FOSSIL BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT

The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in the town of the same name, is a must-see for fans of paleontology and spectacular scenery. This national monument is home to colorful rock formations that bear witness to the evolution of plants and animals, climate change and past ecosystems over a period of more than 40 million years. Visitors can explore Oregon's prehistoric past at the Thomas Condon Visitor Center, which features exhibits and a working laboratory.
