Dating from the 17th century, the majestic villa Garzoni, in baroque style, was built by the Marquis Romano Garzoni. This residence, decorated in the pure rococo style, is also known as the "villa of 100 windows" because of the many openings overlooking the gardens from its imposing facade. It was during the 18th century that the villa and its garden became famous, welcoming in particular the Archdukes Ferdinand of Austria and Anne de Médicis and, later, Napoleon Bonaparte. It is also in this sumptuous villa that the writer Carlo Collodi, the creator of the Pinocchio puppet, spent his entire childhood.
The jewel of the estate, the spectacular Garzoni Garden, created in 1652, is one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy. The style is typical of the transition between the French Renaissance and the rising Baroque. On the hillside, the garden perfectly matches the mountainous shapes of the landscape. The visit begins with the old stables, now transformed into an exhibition dedicated to the history of the magnificent Villa Garzoni. Then the Italian-style garden awaits you, with its fountains, water lilies, waterfalls, mythological statues and baroque stairs where peacocks and swans parade. The most common plants are holm oak, cypress, boxwood and bamboo. The garden also houses the Butterfly House or Casa delle Farfalle ("Butterfly House"), a collection of butterflies that grows in a specially restored tropical environment.Advertising
