PALANOK CASTLE (ЗАМОК ПАЛАНОК)
Arriving in Mukacheve from Uzhgorod, you will immediately see this beautiful majestically castle erected on a hill in the middle of the plain. The exact date of its construction was unknown, but it was already mentioned in the th century columns. In a strategic position, it was used to control the road that Hungary led to Galicia. The reconstructions have succeeded over the centuries, as have the lords who have become owners. From 1396 to 1414, he was owned by Fedur Koryatovich, prince of Podyllia. It was at that time that the well was dug up which, with its 85 m depth, is considered one of the deepest in Ukraine. In 1633 he passed to the Rakosi family which reigned in Transylvania. From 1685 to 1688, the castle had the most terrible seat of its entire history on the part of the Austrian Emperor's army. Ilona Zrini, the widow of Prince Ferenc Rakosi, courageously ruled resistance, but was forced to capitulate before the superiority of the enemy. The castle quickly became a symbol of the Hungarian people's resistance to Austrian oppression, but passed under the control of the Austrians who had built it in prison. The prison closed in 1896 and the castle was abandoned. In the Soviet era, a professional school was founded there and today it houses the historic museum of the city.
