West of the Eixo Monumental. The military cathedral of the "Queen of Peace" was built following the visit of Pope John Paul II to Brasília in 1991. Its architecture was designed by Oscar Niemeyer who imagined a building in the shape of a military tent preceded by a monumental cross. The sobriety of the interior is remarkable. The altar of the church is a reproduction of the altar used by the Pope during the mass he celebrated on the Esplanade of the Ministry in 1991.
