PALÁCIO DO PLANALTO
Glass building designed by Oscar Niemeyer, under a broad white concrete roof and supported by a series of inverted columns
One of the landmark achievements of architect Niemeyer and urban planner Costa is, of course, the heart of the executive branch in the new capital of the Federal Republic of Brazil. The Palácio do Planalto (Palace of the President of the Republic) is a glass building under a large white concrete roof, supported by a series of inverted columns. Oscar Niemeyer wanted to produce a striking plastic effect by juxtaposing the right angle and the curves. No doubt we should see power and modernity in this. The statues of warriors are by Giorgi.
