LINCOLN - THE MOVIE TRAIL
On traces of the filming of Spielberg's film, Lincoln, shot for 53 days in Virginia and released in 2012. Although most of the film is supposed to take place in Washington D.C., the filming being too difficult and expensive in the federal capital, Steven Spielberg chose Richmond, his region and Petersburg as decor. Richmond was the capital of Confederation during the Civil War, and the place of residence of the sole President of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis. The outside of the State Capitol in Richmond, designed by Thomas Jefferson, was transformed into White House by the film team. The Virginia Representatives Chamber served as Congress. The tourist Office's website offers downloadable maps that allow you to walk in the footsteps of the true President Lincoln in Petersburg, three weeks before his assassination, and to visit the different film theatres.
