Succeeding Jamestown and Williamsburg as the capital of Virginia, Richmond has the privilege of welcoming the state's legislative power in a recently restored capitol. Completed in 1785, under the supervision of Thomas Jefferson himself and the architect Charles-Louis Clérisseau, the building is inspired by the famous Maison Carrée de Nîmes and is not covered by a dome, characteristic of most North American capitoles. The building served as a capitol of the Confederation during the civil war.

Un superbe monument
Le siège de l'Etat de Virginie est un superbe bâtiment inspiré de la maison carrée à Nîmes. La visite n'est pas très longue mais passionnante.
