The beautiful plantation of Red Hill, about ten kilometres south of Appomattox, near Brookneal, was the last remains of one of the "voices of American freedom", Patrick Henry. It was he who launched the poignant appeal "freedom or death" in St. John's church in Richmond. ", which had to move Virginia into the Revolutionary camp in the American war of independence. Patrick Henry's legal office and tomb have been preserved, and his last remains, dependencies and a small museum have been reconstructed.
