THE LOST COLONY

The mission of the Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) is to commemorate the history of the first English colonies on the island of Roanoke (where Manteo is located). This is the purpose of the Lost Colony show. The first staging dates back to 1937 and was written by playwright Paul Green (1894-1981), winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Production involves more than 200 actors, technicians, designers and volunteers. The scene itself is more than three times higher than that of Broadway in New York. Seated at the centre of the scenic space, the viewer can follow the action that takes place all around him and sometimes at his side. Indian epic battles and dances are part of the show, as are grief, tragedy, music, laughter and romance.
