The Red River Gorge is made up of a canyon system, most of which is located inside Daniel Boone National Forest. Due to its major geological interest, the Red River Gorge also belongs to the Red River Gorge Geological Area (120 km 2). The area has over 100 natural sandstone arches and the multitude of cliffs there is a very popular destination for climbing. In the immediate vicinity, Kentucky Natural Bridge State park features a natural bridge 23 metres long and 20 metres high.
