MOUNTAIN HOMEPLACE
Moutnaint HomePlace is a vibrant historical museum located just a few kilometres from Paintsville, close to Paintsville Lake State Park. The property includes several buildings dating back to the 1850 s spread over a huge terrain, and a Welcome center in which a museum on the history of the Appalachians and a shop for the sale of handicrafts are located. The buildings were moved from their original sites to form this area in the 1980 s.
David McKenzie House, school, church, barn, blacksmith's workshop, basket of grain are all things to visit in guided turn, driven by your hosts in period costume. The explanations are simple and concise but allow us to understand the lives of the inhabitants of the sites 150 years ago. The farm animals are there (hens, mules, goats, rabbits…) for the greatest pleasure of the youngest. In season, concerts and other entertainment are regularly organised on the site, including in the 700-seat amphitheatre. Picnic area, washrooms.
