MONT JEZERCA
Highest point in the Albanian Alps, at 2,692 meters. Difficult hike (guidebook recommended), but breathtaking panorama.
This peak, whose name means "the lake ridge" (Maja e Jezercës), is the highest point in the Albanian Alps, at 2,692 meters above sea level. On its flanks are some of the very few - and small - glaciers in southern Europe. Of course, the panorama here is magnificent. But the ascent is quite difficult: good mountaineering experience is required, and the services of a guide are recommended. There are three possible access routes: from the Valbona valley in Rrogam (16 km), from Theth (25 km) or from Vusanje (25 km) in Montenegro.
