A symbol of Përmet, the "City Rock" is a limestone formation standing 20 m high in the center of town, along the Vjosa river and near a small modern mosque. A metal staircase of some 70 steps leads to the top. Here, the ruins of a5th-century Byzantine fortress remain. Legend has it that it belonged to the local lord Permt, who resisted the Ottomans in the 14th century and gave his name to Përmet. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views over the town and the Vjosa valley.
