Camping by the beach and close to the shops in Hauru.
On a vast beachfront property, Camping Neslon, opened in 1980, is a place well known to adventurers from all over the world. Several options: camping, room (shared shower and toilet), or bungalows with private bathroom. Everything's pretty clean. The collective bathrooms, equipped with hot water, are relatively well maintained. On the practical side, the whole is equipped with a collective kitchen. Shops are nearby. No transfers but the car rental companies are 250 meters away.

Grass at CN is perfect for pitching a tent. Owner speaks enough English to get by. My tent space was 20,000 cpf per night. Less than $20. Not in town, per se, but plenty of restaurants, grocery and shopping within a 5 minute walk.
Reservation was required. Plenty of room for tents, but the rooms appear full. Fare Om also provides tent camping on Mo'orea, haven't been there yet.
