The Vaiehu marae consists of large raised coral slabs, some of which were dedicated to the gods of fishing. According to legend, the guardian of the marae installed a stone fish in the coral formwork to invoke the generosity of the gods. It is the only national marae of Maupiti; nine kings of the Havi'i, Mangai and Mangarongaro islands were crowned there. Unfortunately, the site is of little interest today: a stele is indeed present with many explanations, but it should have been translated for the popa'as!
