MARAE VITARIA

It is the largest marae in the Austral Islands, which until recently housed the last royal family of Rurutu. Unfortunately not very well maintained, this major site was home to a vast housing complex of about 300 houses from the 10th to 11th centuries, where vertical stones still stand in the shape of a point, a characteristic feature of the marae des Australes. The marae Poreopi, not far from Auti, is practically similar. If you want some more explanations, ask Elin and Viriamu from the Teautamatea boarding house (Sir is a royal descendant!).
