Almost everything is paved or concrete, but the road still does not turn around the island in 2018: The Akapaa-airport section is missing. There are several carrots in the mountains to connect the airport, Taiohae, Taipivai, Hatiheu, Hooumi, Aakapa. One of the priorities is to finish off these roads that can only be borrowed in 4 x 4 or on horseback. A huge step has been taken with the closure (loop) of the track. Now we can join Pua and Aakapa through a direct road to the airport, when we had to pass through the Toovii plateau, which was a three-hour journey. You can also try the adventure on foot, provided you have good walking shoes, water and anti-mosquito products. If you started crossing and you're already exhausted, try hitchhiking, it works very well… when there's world.
