HAKAUI VALLEY
Go there and contact
The Hakaui Valley is one of the most grandiose sites in Nuku-Hiva and the Marquises in general. A former fief of King Te Moana, this valley has a paved royal lane with many tikis and pae pae. All at the end is the cascade of Vaipo, with a height of 350 m.
From Taiohae, a horse trail leads to the Hakaui Valley. This parade is so cashed that the sun doesn't even break its rays. Count 4 hours walk to Hakatea, then 15 minutes to Hakaui village. Watch out! This trail is not obvious and the sun is very strong. Take a guide. Or you can wet Hakatea, the adjacent bay, then walk to the village of Hakaui. The village still houses a few families who still resist the invader (modernity and stumbling). You can serve typical meals on request, and guide you to the waterfall. It can be done very well by itself, the path is quite clearly defined; however, at least three times a river must be crossed. Take about 4 hours back.
