HAKAMOUI VALLEY

This valley, also known as the King Valley, was the fief of the Atidad tribe centuries ago. The first observable vestige is a massive pae that recently served as a foundation to a newly abandoned dwelling. By removing wild herbs (which have become very invasive over time), we can discover human figures embedded in stone. A little later, Mataautea, the site reserved for the chief of the tribe, is dominated by a very old and unfortunately poorly preserved tiki: one can see only one eye and mouth. Even further in the valley, we can now see the pae pae of Temenaha, also incrusted from bas-reliefs representing various petroglyphs. All these sites were restored at the 1995 Marquises Festival.
