The village of Vaitahu is home to a magnificent Catholic church that bears witness to the fervor of the local people. Inaugurated in 1988, this church, financed by the Vatican, is a blend of Marquesan and Catholic styles. Some of the carvings are a little ambiguous in style, but all are of the utmost finesse, like this superb 4-metre-high Virgin and Child carved from wood. A true jewel reflecting the local craftsmanship and spirituality of the community!
