EL ZOTZ
The architecture of the site is monumental with more than 49 structures - including three large temples and the pyramid of El Diablo - divided into four main groups:
The group is composed of a main square around which are located various structures including two funeral pyramids.
The central group is spread around the central square: an acropolis to the north, a ball field to the south (so small that it is considered to have more symbolic than practical value here), low platforms and pyramids on the west side.
The group of five temples is a square flanked by two pyramids to the north and two others to the south - all of the same height - while a long triadic temple stretches out on its eastern side.
The southern group is a complex acropolis type complex spread around an interior patio and covered by dense vegetation.
The pyramid of El Diablo is located about 1 kilometre west of the city centre.
It should be noted that in 2010, archaeologists made important discoveries, including a royal tomb containing several jade jewels but also six children's skeletons, sacrificed during the sovereign's death.
