TEMPLO III
Templo III or Templo del Gran Sacerdote dating from 810 and 60 meters high, preserving the original fir-tree lintel.
Built around the year 810, the Templo del Gran Sacerdote - "of the High Priest" - is without doubt one of the most singular monuments of Tikal. It gives an excellent idea of the state in which the site was rediscovered: under a dense tropical vegetation, it appears as an enormous tumulus whose top crushes the sylvan canopy. Moreover, it is one of the highest buildings of the city, with about sixty meters in height. It has also preserved, unlike Templos I and IV, the original lintel in fir wood at the top of its altar.
