Sir Laurence Oliphant (1829-1888) was an English politician and journalist who lived in this house with his wife, Alice, and his secretary, Nephtali Hertz lmber, the author of the Israeli national anthem Hatikvah (Hope). In front of the building, a memorial is dedicated to the Druze soldiers who fell among the forces of Tsahal, the Israeli army. The complex enjoys a splendid location on Mount Carmel, overlooking the Mediterranean and the surrounding green mountains.
