Forest celebrating the heroism of the nun, Anne-Marie Javouhey, who freed 150 Guyanese slaves in 1838.
An impulse of commemoration has taken root in the lands of Chamblanc, Jallanges and Seurre. 50 trees have been planted to honor the memory of the emancipation of 150 slaves. The forest celebrates the heroism of Chamblanc-born nun Anne-Marie Javouhey, who freed 150 Guyanese slaves in 1838, ten years before the abolition of slavery. Each tree, like a living monument, bears the name of one of these first emancipated slaves.
