Please note that the site has been formally closed since July 2023 due to the risk of landslides threatening the Valley. 100 km from Huaraz and 32 km from Caraz, this lake has the largest surface area in the Cordillera Blanca. Caught between Artesonraju, Pirámide de Garcilaso and Chacraraju, three nevados approaching 6,000 m, Parón, at 4,185 m, was one of Callejón's main attractions. The risks to visitors and the local population led the authorities to ban access. There are a few unscrupulous agencies that go there, so don't help them.
