ALPAMAYO
The Alpamayo peaks at 5,947 m. This white peak is said to be the most perfect in the world, due to its diamond-cut shape. Unfortunately, it can't be seen from the valley, as it is masked by higher peaks: Santa Cruz (6,260 m) and Quitaraju (6,035 m). To appreciate its perfection, you have to get there on foot: take an early-morning combi to Hualcayan, then walk 20 km. At this altitude and with the altitude difference, it will take you around 12 hours to get there, and the same for the return journey. So count on 3 to 4 days to get the measure of it.
